- Mercado Bitcoin, Latin America’s leading cryptocurrency platform with 4.5 million clients, will integrate SUI, USDC and USDsui, becoming the first exchange in Brazil to support transfers of assets on the Sui network.
- USDsui can be used as collateral in Mercado Bitcoin’s lending product.
- Mercado Bitcoin and Sui are exploring an integration with Hashi, and will bring their tokenized real-world asset platform to the Sui network. The platform has issued more than 800 tokenized assets since 2019.
- Mercado Bitcoin, Latin America’s leading digital asset platform and Brazil’s first cryptocurrency exchange, is bringing Sui assets into Brazil’s regulated financial system, giving a broad user base its first access to Sui in the region.
The exchange will offer SUI, USDC and USDsui, allowing its clients to buy, sell, send and receive assets on the Sui network for the first time. The integration also allows the Sui Dollar (USDsui) to be used as collateral in Mercado Bitcoin’s lending product.
Both companies are exploring how to integrate Hashi —Sui’s native Bitcoin orchestration layer, designed for institutions— into Mercado Bitcoin’s existing lending products, thereby expanding the ways Brazilian investors can use Bitcoin. They will also move Mercado Bitcoin’s tokenized real-world assets to the Sui network, extending the collaboration beyond digital assets into new financial products.
Mercado Bitcoin has one of the most comprehensive regulatory frameworks in the Brazilian digital asset market, with 10 licenses in Brazil and Europe, including authorization from the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) as a payment institution and from the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) as a securities intermediary. As an authorized payment institution, the company is natively integrated with Pix —Brazil’s instant payment system—, allowing clients to convert in real time between Brazilian reais (BRL) and US dollar-denominated stablecoins.
The company is also developing cross-border channels to the United States and Portugal —two of Brazil’s most important remittance corridors— and is registered with the Bank of Portugal to offer exchange and custody services. Sui and Mercado Bitcoin are also exploring the possibility of integrating Hashi with Mercado Bitcoin’s tokenized real-world asset platform, which runs on Sui. Together, these initiatives lay the groundwork for greater utility of Sui in the region —beyond the initial listings and payment channels— and foster broader adoption of Hashi and Bitcoin-based financial solutions in Brazil.
A regulated path into Brazil’s payment infrastructure
Mercado Bitcoin’s status as a payment institution authorized by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) allows its PIX integration to offer Sui a direct, regulated, real-time channel between the Brazilian real and on-chain assets (on the blockchain). This makes Mercado Bitcoin the first trading platform (exchange) in Brazil to support Sui asset transfers, connecting the network to one of the most widely used payment systems in the region.
“Brazil is a financial pillar, both in South America and globally, and it is key to the next phase of Sui’s sustained growth,” said Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) of Mysten Labs, Sui’s main developer. “Mercado Bitcoin is the leading digital asset platform in the country, offering listings, payment services, access to Bitcoin and real-world assets to millions of clients. It’s hard to imagine a better-suited partner for Sui’s next stage.”
“Thanks to Mercado Bitcoin, millions of people in Brazil now have access to Sui,” said Roberto Dagnoni, chairman of Mercado Bitcoin and CEO of 2TM. “We have spent more than a decade building a regulated foundation for digital assets in Brazil, with authorizations from both the Central Bank and the CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission). The Pix integration gives our clients a direct path between the real and cryptocurrencies. We are expanding this reach through infrastructure we are also developing in the United States and Portugal. Bringing Sui into this infrastructure means opening a new network to millions of Brazilians, within a fully regulated environment.”
Hashi and Bitcoin-based financial solutions for Mercado Bitcoin clients
Mercado Bitcoin is exploring the integration of Hashi, a Sui-native protocol for Bitcoin-based finance. This system allows Bitcoin holders to lend and borrow using their BTC directly on-chain, without resorting to “wrappers” (wrappers) or synthetic versions of the asset. Hashi’s global test network (testnet) is already live, and the launch on the main network (mainnet) is scheduled for this month. Any product developed from this integration would be subject to Mercado Bitcoin’s internal governance and the applicable Brazilian regulatory framework; no offering is currently available.
A comprehensive real-world asset platform comes to Sui
Mercado Bitcoin will bring its tokenized real-world asset (RWA) platform to Sui, creating one of the most complete RWA offerings in the region and one of the few worldwide where both retail and institutional investors can access the same regulated asset classes on equal terms. Since beginning its tokenization operations in 2019, the platform has issued more than 800 tokenized assets, spanning instruments such as receivables, structured credit, consortium shares and real estate, giving retail investors fractional access to opportunities that were historically concentrated among institutional participants. Unlike platforms that rely on third parties, Mercado Bitcoin originates, structures and tokenizes these assets in-house. Its public offerings are distributed under the regulatory framework of the CVM (Brazilian Securities Commission) for offerings through crowdfunding investment platforms (CVM Resolution 88), while secondary trading is governed by CVM Resolution 135.
Because these assets reside on the same platform as Mercado Bitcoin’s on/off-ramp system —integrated with PIX—, investors not only gain access to new asset classes but can also move seamlessly and instantly between Brazilian reais and tokenized real-world assets (RWA), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, thus avoiding the settlement times typical of traditional investment products in Brazil.
Sui’s object-centric model gives developers a foundation for making assets, permissions and data programmable, enabling direct and compliant infrastructure without the need for “wrapped” assets (wrapped tokens) or third-party instruments. Taking out BTC-collateralized loans to invest in real-world assets (RWA) follows a logic Mercado Bitcoin clients already know; thanks to Hashi, using Bitcoin as collateral to access these markets could become a natural extension of the way they currently invest.
Part of the growing stablecoin momentum on Sui
The Mercado Bitcoin integration comes at a time when stablecoin activity on Sui continues to accelerate. Stablecoin transfers on Sui are now fee-free at the protocol level, allowing users to send supported stablecoins —including USDC and USDsui— without paying network fees (gas) or needing to hold an additional token. In addition, according to network data, Sui has recorded more than one trillion dollars (USD 1 trillion) in stablecoin transfer volume over the past 12 months. Mercado Bitcoin’s access to Sui assets extends this momentum into one of the fastest-growing digital asset markets in the world.
Expanding Sui’s reach in Europe
Since Mercado Bitcoin also operates a licensed exchange and custody services in Portugal —through its subsidiary Mercado Bitcoin Portugal, which is in the process of obtaining authorization under the MiCA regulation—, this partnership also extends Sui’s presence into that market. In this way, the collaboration establishes a foothold in both Brazil and Europe through a single strategic relationship.
