Interview conducted by Fernando Molina for Territorio Blockchain.
What changes in the crypto world from January 2027? On Territorio Bitcoin, Fernando Molina talks with Valentín Santamaría, a digital asset manager, about the landscape taking shape for next year: the GENIUS Act in force in the United States, tokenized stocks available to anyone from their phone, and AI agents capable of paying, investing and managing portfolios on our behalf.
The GENIUS Act and the division of regulatory power
The conversation opens with the US regulatory calendar: what it means for the GENIUS Act to take effect in 2027 and how that framework fits with the midterm elections. The review also covers the fate of the Clarity proposal and the role the SEC and the CFTC end up taking on in overseeing the sector.
Strategy, the MSCI and corporate treasuries
Santamaría reviews Strategy‘s situation ahead of the MSCI review, an issue that has shaped the debate over companies holding bitcoin on their balance sheets. Along the same lines, the discussion addresses the Nasdaq listing of a BNB treasury company and the asset’s trajectory.
Tokenized stocks: paying for groceries and getting liquidity without selling
One of the core segments is tokenization: Coinbase’s progress with tokenized stocks, the possibility of using these assets as a means of payment and, above all, of obtaining liquidity through loans backed by tokenized collateral without closing the position. This gives rise to another idea running through the interview: banks and exchanges are increasingly competing for the same customer.
AI agents, x402 and value capture
The manager explains the role that AI agents and the x402 protocol could play in automated payments and investments, and how banks are positioning themselves in the face of this shift. He also discusses how to assess whether a token truly captures the value of its project: as he puts it, he would buy Ripple shares before XRP, and he cites the case of Hyperliquid when talking about tokenomics that protect investors. The European regulatory segment focuses on the standoff between Binance and USDT and MiCA.
A thought for investors
The interview closes with training in digital asset management and a reflection from the guest: a manager’s job is 80% patience and 20% execution. The opinions expressed are his own.
